1、用法不同

on account of 語氣較為正式。可作狀語、表語, 不作定語

例句：He could not come on account of his illness．

他因病不能前來。

account for 對(duì)…負(fù)有責(zé)任；對(duì)…做出解釋；說明……的原因

例句：He could not account for his absence from school.

他無法說明他曠課的原因。

2、含義不同
